Cut The Crap and WRITE THAT DAMN SCREENPLAY! - UpdatesUpdatesEven the best copyedited books will have omissions, typos, and mistakes of all kinds. Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings took over twenty years of published editions before it was considered canon. My book is no exception. With almost 40,000 words there's bound to be some errata that not even I and my exceptional copyeditor will catch until later on. The beauty of Print-On-Demand however is that unlike back in Tolkien's days, I can update my book immediately and not have to wait for a new edition of the book to be released. Also, this webpage is dedicated to noting the mistakes and their proper corrections.
I do apologize if you have any printings of the book that has these minor oversights. But even in the grandest of tomes there's going to be some blemish—that's just the nature of publishing.
So if you find anything whatsoever that you think might be an omission, typo, or mistake, check back here first and see if I've already posted it, or definitely contact me and let me know. Then I'll fix it immediately. I welcome the help.

Print EditionCOMMENT: There have been various printings of the book since it was published on July 2, 2010, so not all of these oversights will be in every book out there. The current Revision of the book is number 5.
Front Cover - The two current major endorsements have been added to the front cover: David Trottier's just under the title, and Anthony Ambrosino's just above and to the left of my name. You can read these endorsements on the book's Amazon.com page or on the What Others Are Saying page here at TenthSphere.com. Copyright Page - Added the revision number under the words "First Edition" so it reads as: (Rev.5). COMMENT: Revisions 1 through 4 have not previously been noted in the book. I never thought to do so. Any future corrections to the book will have to wait for the Second Edition set to be released in Summer of 2012. As always I will continue to note any errata here on the updates page. Acknowledgements Page - Added three more individuals to this page whom I want to also thank: Michael B. Campbell (Author and Humorist, Are You Going To Eat That?; www.mcwriting.com)—his finesse in converting this book to an eBook cannot be overstated. He has magnificently helped me to extend my message to places both far and wide. Finally, I want acknowledge three more fine artists whose endorsements of this book hold great meaning for me. First is David Trottier, author of The Screenwriter’s Bible. His book has been a staple of my screenwriting projects for many years. He is the kind of writer that we all should aspire to be: a writer who genuinely helps and inspires other writers. Second is Anthony Ambrosino (Director, Sleather)—a filmmaker who showed me that you do not have to wait around for Hollywood to make a movie. He’s out there right now in The Ocean State getting it done in full Cut The Crap style! pg. 2 - "And it is not for timid,
the feint of heart, the weekend warrior, or the wannabe writer." This should read as: "And it is not for the timid, the faint of heart, the weekend warrior, or the wannabe writer." Now fixed in Rev.5. pg. 41 - errant quotation mark in second paragraph first line due to old index tagging [too complicated to go into], now removed pg. 53 - "In Act One..." There is an extra space before the first word. Not a big deal but for the sake of formatting consistency, now fixed in Rev.5.
pps. 64, 65, 68 - improperly fomatted ellipses, now fixed, proper format is: [word][space]...[space][word]
pg. 71 - changed "habit" to "habitat" pg. 83 - "...since you're new to screen
writing..." The words "screen" and "writing" should be one word: "screenwriting". Now fixed in Rev.5.
pg. 91 - "Story by, Katherine Fugate and Abby Kohn (the and means they worked together on it), & Marc Silverstein (the & or ampersand means this guy was brought in later to do).
This should read as:
"Story by, Katherine Fugate and Abby Kohn & Marc Silverstein (the and separates those who did not work together, while the & means those who did)." This has been fixed since Rev.3.
COMMENT: I don't know what I was thinking the day I missed this. I know the difference between the "and" and "&" in WGAw/e screenplay writing credits. Back in 2006, I wrote a collaborative script with a friend of mine that is registered with the WGAw and copyrighted with the US LOC that clearly uses the "&" to denote that we wrote it together. Oh well, I'm only human.
pg. 93 - "Money and marketing was..." should have a plural verb to read as: "Money and marketing were solely behind this project."
pg. 107 - changed "Collaborate" to "Collaborative"
COMMENT: My apologies to the Rhode Island Film Collaborative (of which I am a member), as I think this was a simple mis-typing of the literal use of the word "collaborate" as opposed to the proper name for the organization.
pg. 118 - Glossary - changed "Acton" to "Action" in entry title, The Three Ss of Action and Dialogue
pg. 121 - "movie written by committee" - entire phrase in Index is italicized to read as: "movie written by committee"
pg. 122 - "Screenplay" - is an extra entry in the Index - I've deleted it, put the indexed page number in with the following entry to read as: "Screenplay: The Foundations of Screenwriting, 2, 49"
pg. 122 - changed "Collaborate" to "Collaborative" in the Index
pg. 123 - "The Screenwriter's Bible" should be italicized to read as: The Screenwriter's Bible
COMMENT: My apologies Mr. Trottier, you know as well as anybody that creating an index is as much an art as it is a science. It's fixed now.
pg. 123 - "The Holy Bible" should be italicized to read as: The Holy Bible About The Author - Added the following: Write me, blog with me, friend me, or follow me here: nick@tenthsphere.com tenthsphere.com/nicksblog Facebook: cutthecrapandwrite Twitter @cutcrapwrite COMMENT: I removed the LinkedIn URL as I am now using the above social media sites to communicate with my readers. NOTE: Revision 5 necessitated a slight renumbering of the pages—essentially after page 34 the text starts advancing forward onto the next page which ultimately pushes the beginning of Chapter Five on to page 43 rather than page 41—and so on. This means that all of the errata stated above are only related to the Revisions 1-4 of the book. If another mistake is discovered, I will note its location in both pre and post Revision 5 texts below.
eBook EditionAuthor name and book title misspelled in metadata:

COMMENT: These oversights have now been fixed, corrected versions are now available for all eBook readers via Apple's iBookstore, Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and Lulu.com. NOTE: The above misspelling of my name seems to have been a persistent problem with Apple's iBookstore. After repeated attempts to get them to correctly list my name with the proper spelling (after fixing it on the EPUB file uploaded to their store), the iBookstore just couldn't resolve the problem on their end. To ultimately fix this (at a cost to me unfortunately) a new ISBN number had to be issued, changing it from 978-1-935841-11-1 to 978-1-935841-55-5. All of the above errata for the print edition has been updated in the eBook edition so the two are now in synch. The only differences are:
